Two outdoor faucets.
That's what 130 students and staff at Shree Mathurapati Secondary School in Phoolbari, Nepal have for handwashing.
Last week, Maurice Tobon flew there to inspect the rainwater collection and storage system that provides all of the water on campus.
Maurice is our lead engineer at PhantomH2O. He holds a PE license in Florida. He consults on national water infrastructure. He has done water infrastructure work in Afghanistan on behalf of the United Nations, serving a population of 8 million people — of which only 2 million are currently serviceable.
He is not a consultant who reviews specs from an office.
He traveled with a University of Florida Engineers Without Borders student team. He reviewed the project with school representatives and local engineering partners. He evaluated what was still needed — not just what was built, but what would last. What the school could actually maintain on its own. What would hold up when he was gone.
130 students. Reliable water. Safer sanitation. A better place to learn.
That's what happens when someone actually cares about water — not as a billing line item, but as the thing that everything else depends on.
Why This Matters for Your Property
Most commercial properties in the U.S. have a water problem they don't know about.
A slow leak. A running fixture. A consumption spike that never gets flagged. Water moving through the building 24 hours a day, with zero visibility into what's actually happening inside it.
The consequences are quieter than a school in Nepal without clean water. Nobody is going without. But the financial exposure is real, and it compounds every month it goes undetected.
The average undetected leak in a multifamily building runs 200 to 1,000 gallons per day. At current water rates, that's a cost you're exposed to every billing cycle — without knowing it's happening, and without any signal that something is wrong.
The Connection
The same engineer who just spent 36 hours traveling to make sure 130 kids in Nepal have clean water to wash their hands is the same engineer who reviews your building's water system before PhantomH2O ever installs anything.
That's not a marketing angle. That's the actual person.
When Maurice looks at your building, he's not running a checklist. He's applying the same framework he uses everywhere — what does this system need to actually work, long-term, for the people who depend on it?
That mindset is what a Water Engineering Study at PhantomH2O is built around. A real assessment of what's happening in your building, what it's costing you, and what a monitoring system would actually change.
